Vybz Kartel’s Defense attorney has left a cryptic message for the Dancehall superstar.

The deejay’s Privy Council lawyer, Isat Buchanan, is seemingly warning him about the company he keeps.

Fans were left speculating after Buchanan took to Instagram to post an old clip of Tupac Shakur. However, what was interesting was the actual message to “trust nobody.”

The attorney captioned the post, “Me talking to 2021 after experiencing 2020,” before tagging Vybz Kartel.

Vybz Kartel has often warned about the consequences of trusting people in his music. He has countless tracks warning fans such as Mi Nuh Trust PeopleCyaa Trust and Which Friend.

The cryptic message has left many fans pondering as to its true motive. It is especially intriguing considering Vybz Kartel is currently behind bars largely in part to the testimony of a trusted friend in court.

Earlier this year Vybz Kartel and his co-accused were granted leave to take their appeal to The Privy Council in the United Kingdom. They were given a duration of 90 days to prepare and dispatch the appeal.

The entertainer’s defense will mainly seek to challenge how evidence was collected and whether it breached the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. They will also raise issues surrounding jury misconduct to Jamaica’s final appellate court. They were granted the leave to appeal based on the trial judge, Justice Lennox Campbell’s refusal to discharge the jury following impropriety on their part.

Last month Buchanan accused the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of being “shady” following their attempts to gain access to ‘Exhibit 14C’, i.e. the cellphone which contained controversial voice notes allegedly recorded by the deejay.

“Despite the attempts of myself and the Queen’s Counsel, we have been unable to get access to the cellphone, which we believe has evidence of tampering,” he said.

“We have represented our concerns by writing to agents in England, and we hope that this activity will move the Privy Council to force their hand to release the phone so we can confirm whether it was tampered with.”

Vybz Kartel is currently serving a life sentence for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams. He will have to serve 35 years before being eligible for parole.
