Sony Xperia XZ4 rumors and leaks are nothing new and frankly nether is the notion that he company’s next flagship will sport an incredibly tall display, even by today’s mobile trends and standards. The first batch of alleged renders we saw of the phone already talked of a 6.5-inch panel on a phone that would be essentially as wide as the Xperia XZ3, but stretch up to about 166.9mm, towering over most of the handsets in our database.
Those original renders were followed by case leaks, more detailed specs leaks and more recently – a glass creen protector leakall agreeing on the 21:9 aspect of the panel. The latest info in this regard comes courtesy of reputable “leakster” Ice universe, who also got his hands on a screen protector for the Xperia XZ4. By his own measurements, display area is 15.2 cm tall, which is roughly the whole height of the iPhone XS Max, as illustrated in the set of pictures. In case you are wondering what the other two screen protectors on the photos are, our best guess is that those belong to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ – as discussed in this article.
This second part of the Xperia XZ4 leak is a bit different. Our best guess as to what is going on here is that Ice universe has a to-scale model on the Xperia XZ4 up on a screen with the glass screen protector from the previous photos stuck on top with tape, just to illustrate the accuracy of the scale. The content playing on-screen is a scene from Thor Ragnarok, which we did manage to track down and best we can tell is not being cropped in any way. What that means is that, indeed, the Xperia XZ4 appears to be rocking an incredibly tall/wide 21:9 aspect ratio display – just perfect to play cinema content one to one.
That being said, this might be an opportune time to whip out those old iPhone 5 memes poking at the phone’s vertical growth. Frankly, we are not particularly sure about the actual usability of such a beastly display ourselves.
As for other alleged specs for the XZ4, we don’t really know much with any certainty. However, the phone is likely to rock a Snapdragon 855 chipset, coupled with 6 GB RAM and either 64 GB or 256 GB of storage. It is said to come with a fingerprint scanner on the side, while the primary camera of the back will feature a 1/2.3” sensor and OIS. The front panel will house a single selfie shooter with super wide-angle lens. Other reported specs include a 3,900 mAh battery, and Android Pie out of the box. Sony usually has an event at CES in January, but it’s more likely that we’ll see the phone go official at MWC in February.
