Is there anything else you can do? New research says there is.
Tamarind May Lower Fluoride In Bones
According to a 2002 research studypublished in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, tamarind can remove risky deposits of fluoride from the bones. The goal of the research was to learn more about the potential abilities of tamarind in lowering the elevated levels of fluoride and also increasing its elimination through urine. (1)
What Is Tamarind?
Tamarind is a fruit that grows on an evergreen, tropical tree. This tree is native to Africa but can also be found and is popular in Australia, Mexico, and South-Asia. It is unique for its brown pod-like fruit that is very juicy when it matures. Before ripening, tamarind is actually green and sour, however, it turns into a sweet-and-sour, pulpy, unique fruit with time.
Tamarind is very popular in most Asian dishes. Asians and other cultures celebrate it for its medicinal properties. It is part of many folk remedies.
What Did The Study Find?
In this incredible study on tamarind and fluoride, researchers asked their participants, who were mainly boys, to eat tamarind for 18 days. Their intake was only a third of an ounce. They found a significant increase in their urinary excretion of fluoride. The study has backed previous research on tamarind where boys were given tamarind for three weeks and also showed increased fluoride excretion compared to the control group. (1, 2)
Why Is This Finding So Important?
Fluoride is a problem in the US. Around 200 million people in this country have fluoride in their municipal water that they are drinking and using daily. (3)
Why is this an issue? Fluorides are neurotic in nature and when accumulated in your body and your brain at high levels they may lead to neurological damage, reduce your IQ, lead to low thyroid function, cause infertility, result in bone weakness and cause cancer.
Fluoride can lead to:
- Staining of teeth or dental fluorosis
- Skeletal fluorosis
- Bone weakness
- Joints problems
- Low levels of estrogen or testosterone
- Renal obstruction
- Lack of motivation
- Stomach damage
- DNA damage
- Increased aging process
- Pineal gland problem
- White blood cell issue
Fluoride is simply not necessary for the human body, in fact, it can be rather damaging.
These research results are promising that tamarind can help lower fluoride levels and help people who are concerned about having too much fluoride in their bodiesdue to their water or toothpaste.
Additionally, using toothpaste without fluoride and drinking purified or spring water can also help if you are concerned.
