Liverpool supporters are excited about a report which claimed that the Anfield club is once again eyeing Jamaican international Leon Bailey for the summer transfer window.
According to Goal, Liverpool have identified the Bayer Leverkusen winger as a cut-price alternative for Borussia Dortmund’s England international Jadon Sancho, even though his form has dipped more recently.
Liverpool fans took to social media to support a move for the 22-year-old Jamaican. They believe targeting Bailey, who made his international debut for Jamaica last year, is a good idea because the winger could flourish under the guidance of manager Jurgen Klopp and could be a good replacement for Sancho, who is a marked man.
“Sign him over Sancho. Klopp definitely will make him a better player than Sancho,” read one of the many comments.
“Great talent with a huge upside Yes please,” read another.
According to the ‘Anfield Edition’, Sancho still remains a target for Liverpool, however, with interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Borussia Dortmund, being an unwilling seller, a deal may be difficult.
Reports of Bailey moving to England aren’t new.
Back in 2017, when Bailey swapped Genk for the Bundesliga in what has proved to be a bargain £13 million deal, the Jamaican international revealed that he turned down the chance to link up with Klopp at Anfield.
“Manchester United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool – a lot of clubs were interested,” Bailey told the media. “The most important thing as a pro is taking things a step at a time and not rushing to the top too quickly. Because once you get there, where do you go next?”
Bailey has notched three goals and registered an assist in eight Bundesliga outings this term.
