The police have released the identity of the woman who was shot and killed during an attack in which dancehall artiste, Rygin King, and another recording artiste were shot and injured along a section of the roadway in Struie district, Westmoreland on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased woman has been identified as 28-year-old customer service representative, Sashalee Blackwood, of Irwin Meadows, St James.

The 25-year-old Rygin King, born Matthew Smith of Norwood, St James and a Kingston 13 address, is said to be in a critical condition in hospital up to late on Sunday. The condition of the other injured entertainer is not immediately known.

Reports are that about 3.15 pm, Blackwood and friends were travelling in three separate motor vehicles when on reaching a section of the main road in Struie district in the Bethel Town area of Westmoreland, the grey Toyota Mark X car in which she was travelling, was involved in a collision, causing a tyre on the Mark X to blow out.

While the tyre was being changed, a man brandishing a handgun reportedly exited another grey Toyoto motorcar that was driven up, and opened gunfire, hitting Rygin King and the two others.

They were subsequently assisted to a hospital, where Blackwood was pronounced dead and Rygin King and the other recording artiste were admitted for treatment.

“Rygin King was shot in his upper body and his foot, another man was shot in the foot, and the… (the female) was killed,” a source told Loop News.

Other sources suggested that the assailants had been trailing Rygin King’s car for some time, and eventually bumped the artiste’s car, before peppering the vehicle with bullets and speeding off.

The Westmoreland police are investigating the overall development
