The hunt is now on for a gunman who, along with his crony, shot and injured two policemen on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew last night.

According to the police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident happened about 1:30 a.m. in the vicinity of a fuel station.

The CCU said the policemen approached a white Honda Civic motorcar parked on the roadway and were attempting to make enquiries when the gunmen immediately opened fire hitting them before attempting to flee the scene.

According to the CCU, the injured policemen returned the fire and the getaway car subsequently crashed a short distance away.

One of the armed men ran from the vehicle while the other, a wounded 23-year-old Ryheem Lawrence of Halls Green in Temple Hall, was held.

The injured cops and Lawrence were taken to hospital where the gunman was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.
