Tragedy struck at Clan Carthy Primary School in Kingston late on Monday afternoon when a seven-year-old student of the institution died in a freak accident and at least two other persons sustained serious injuries after a garbage truck overturned on the school compound.

Reports are that when the truck overturned, at-least three persons ended up being pinned down under the vehicle.

The development triggered chaos and anxiety at the institution while the authorities spent hours into the evening trying to lift the truck with the use of a crane and other heavy-duty equipment.

Information reaching Loop News is that a Toyota Probox motorcar was also crushed by the impact of the garbage truck falling over.

It was not immediately clear up to press time if the victims were traveling in the Probox when the truck overturned.

But sources have suggested otherwise, stating that the students were sitting on the school ground when the tragic incident occurred.

Up to late Monday evening, the incident drew large groups of curious onlookers and residents, some of them parents themselves all eager to find out who were the victims.

Reports are that the mother of one of the affected students fainted at the scene, and also had to be rushed to hospital.

At one point a senior teacher at the institution was seen fighting hard to hold back his emotions after arriving on the school grounds and hearing the tragic news
