Entertainer Anthony Cruz is asking Jamaicans all over the world to respect his privacy as he mourns the loss of his only daughter. A source close to the entertainer and his family told THE STAR that the singer is currently in Florida trying to obtain further details surrounding the gruesome murder of his 15-year-old daughter, Shanice Smith.
The friend, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that Cruz is experiencing a tremendous loss and needs time to grieve.
“He is our own, and when I say our own, I mean he’s Jamaica’s own, so he has said that he will address the media and the fans but needs some time to come to grips with what has happened,” the person said.
“He is really just out of it, and that’s understandable. He just lost his only daughter, and the matter is very sensitive.”
According to news reports, Cruz’s daughter, 15-year-old daughter Shanice Smith, and her mother, Karen Lyle, 40, were gunned down inside the Florida home of 32-year-old Kevin Nelson on Monday.
Reports are that Nelson called 911 and told the police that he had hurt people. Law enforcers and Nelson were in a five-hour standoff as police tried to gain access to the building after Nelson refused to surrender. When the police finally gained access to the residence, the bodies of the two females were discovered.
He has been charged with two counts of murder.
Meanwhile, the source also expressed gratitude on the entertainer’s behalf and asked that Jamaicans not only respect his wishes, but pray for his strength as he deals with an unspeakable pain.
“He has seen every text message and every call. He has seen the outpouring of support from fans and the entertainment fraternity on a whole, and he is very grateful for all the love and support,” the source said.
“Continue to keep him in your prayers because he is going to need it. You cannot even begin to imagine what he’s going through right now.”
The source added that the entertainer has promised to update his fans as soon as he is strong enough to speak on the issue.
